Neighborhood Watch Report: Northeast Quadrant

In partnership with the Northgate Homeowners Association, the Hyde Park Board hosted its 1st Annual Block Party on Saturday, August 20th, 2011. The event drew a crowd of roughly 150 Hyde Park residents and visitors.

The purpose of the event was to:

  1. Stimulate pride within our community
  2. Get-acquainted with our neighbors
  3. Celebrate the wonderful diversity that exists within our community
  4. Encourage a kid-friendly environment
  5. Promote health & environmental awareness

The Hyde Park Board provided music by Mr. Quick of Q20 Entertainment, who not only played music but provided fun games for both kids & adults. We had several performers that were also well-received by the entire community, such as: the Soaring Eagles, the Guardian Angels, and a surprise visit from our Vallejo Fire Department and Citizens on Patrol. In addition, we provided our community with an extra treat with on-the-spot massages sponsored by OMG Massage.

The children of Hyde Park enjoyed themselves in the ‘Kids Corner’. There were plenty of kids who had fun bouncing around with other children in the huge ‘Sponge Bob’ Bounce House. A section of the jumper included a huge slide, which drew a lot of attention from all the kids who wanted to get wet. Most of the kids also had a good time participating in a full day of musical chairs. Those who won the musical chair games received a parting gift for their efforts. Also, we received plenty of support from the parents that managed the ‘Kids Tables’, where most of the kids lined up for free face painting, cotton candy, and goodie bags.

The day would not have been such a big hit without the delicious food, deserts and entertainment provided some of our talented neighbors. We had a huge turn-out of volunteers who prepared and cooked food for all the attendees. In addition, one our vendors (Ms. Ruthie), brought delicious red velvet and German chocolate cup cakes for everyone to sample.

Overall, the 1st Annual Block Party was a huge success. This was due in large part to the dedication of many of the Hyde Park neighbors who volunteered their time and energy to insure that we had a successful event. Because of the incredible outpouring of community support, we plan to organize many more such activities, including a 2nd Annual Block Party for 2012.
